  • Overview

    The Commercial Banker I will partner with the Relationship Manager in supporting the growth and development of the KC Commercial Banking Group loan portfolio.  This position will provide ongoing asset management of a portfolio of commercial loans and conduct regularly scheduled reviews of overall asset quality, with a focus on evaluating actual performance against original underwriting expectations. Such reviews evaluate information including, project analysis, borrowers/sponsor financial statement analysis, modeling and stressing pro forma statements, evaluating impact of planned capex, project status reports, and overall analysis of the credit condition of the borrower/sponsor. 


    • Establish and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients. Leverage clients lending relationship to identify and capture opportunities to cross-sell additional loan and/or other bank products to clients.
    • Provide support to the Relationship Manager with all aspects of credit risk management, including conducting site inspections, appraisal reviews, identifying credit risks and mitigating factors, and financial analysis of the borrower/project.
    • Assist in the sales proposal process, including accompanying the lenders on customer and prospect calls and various other sales/customer-oriented projects.
    • Work with Relationship Manager in drafting Letters of Interest and term sheets as requested, review final commitment letters, review and approve annual loan reviews and help ensure consistency with execution of terms and conditions provided to the client.
    • Analyze clients’ needs; assess the client’s financial position and credit worthiness to ensure loans meet credit and financial requirements for lending quality and compliance as determined by the Bank’s Credit Policy.
    • Negotiate terms, structure loan financing costs, repayment methods, collateral requirements and rates based on risk considerations and present credits for approval.
    • Work closely with the borrower to provide a preliminary assessment of the necessity of an extension or modification and communicate with the Senior Risk Credit Office. Conduct an analysis of the credit and make a recommendation as to whether an extension/modification is deemed appropriate, as well as, negotiate the terms and conditions of the proposed extension or modification terms.
    • Meet or exceed goals related to retaining and broadening existing client relationships through execution of business development strategies and plans.
    • Report on the overall portfolio, including, assessing asset quality, stress testing, industry and market analysis, competitive analysis, asset allocation, and non-performing loan analysis.
    • Build trusted, collaborative and supporting relationships with internal and external business partners. 
    • Participate in business and community organizations and regularly attend networking events.
    • Use and understand technology necessary to collect, retain, analyze and report critical, requisite information.
    • Interact with internal and external clients while providing extraordinary service.
    • Develop and maintain trusted, positive relationships with other employees, clients, and vendors. 
    • Represent the Bank and Commercial Banking team in a highly professional manner.
    • Complete job assignments in a professional, timely and efficient manner; organize and prioritize work.
    • Maintain confidentiality; adhere to CrossFirst Bank policies and procedures; comply with laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Reliable and predictable attendance.



    • At least two years of commercial banking, underwriting or portfolio management and structuring experience.
    • Formal credit training.
    • Knowledge of commercial banking products and services including credit analysis, underwriting and treasury management products and services.
    • Effective communicator, results oriented, demonstrates the ability to excel in high-pressure situations.
    • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate long term relationships and influence others internally and externally. 
    • Bachelor's degree with exposure to Finance, Business, or Economics courses is preferred or equivalent work experience.
    • An advanced degree and/or ongoing banking seminars and other resources is preferred.
